A Field Day on No-Till Technology Held in Ala-Buka District
On July 9, 2026, a Field Day on the topic “Promoting the Benefits of No-Till Technology for Cereal Crops on Rainfed Lands” was held in the Ortok-Bel area of the Oruktu village government in Ala-Buka District.
The event was organized in partnership with the Jalal-Abad Regional Rural Advisory Service Public Foundation as part of the No-Till Value Chain. A total of 65 people, including 8 women, participated in the Field Day. Participants included farmers, agricultural specialists, representatives of government agencies, and heads of village governments. Farmers growing safflower from Osh Region also took part in the event.
The event was attended by Temirbolot Asanalievich Abykeev, Akim of Ala-Buka District, and Muratbek Kurmanbekovich Uzakov, Head of the District Department for Agricultural Development.
During the event, local authorities emphasized the importance of introducing resource-saving technologies. According to the Head of the District Department for Agricultural Development, the area planted with wheat in the Ortok-Bel area increased from 150 to 400 hectares over three years through the use of No-Till technology. In addition, more than 300 hectares were planted with drought-resistant safflower, an oilseed crop.
The Akim of Ala-Buka District noted that No-Till technology helps preserve soil moisture and humus content, save time, and increase productivity. While conventional farming requires plowing, harrowing, and subsequent seeding, No-Till technology significantly simplifies these processes.
During the Field Day, participants received detailed information about the key principles and benefits of No-Till technology. Discussions focused on preserving soil structure and moisture, reducing production costs, and using land more efficiently.
Practical information was also provided on controlling weeds, pests, and diseases in wheat fields. Participants learned about the importance of carrying out plant protection measures on time when applying No-Till technology correctly.
In addition, farmers were presented with a comparison of the economic indicators of conventional farming and No-Till systems. The discussion covered expenditures on fuel, seeds, and labor, as well as yields and the overall economic efficiency of production.
The practical part of the Field Day took place directly in the fields of the Ortok-Bel area. Participants observed the condition of the crops and saw the results of applying No-Till technology over three years.
According to project experts and local farmers, three years of No-Till cultivation have improved soil conditions and enabled previously unused land to be brought back into agricultural production. Today, in addition to wheat, more than 300 hectares in the area have been planted with safflower using No-Till technology. The area planted with safflower is expected to expand next year.
The Field Day provided an important platform for farmers and specialists to exchange experience, discuss practical results, and explore opportunities for further promoting No-Till technology.
Local authorities expressed their support for expanding the use of the technology. Farmers were also encouraged to establish agricultural cooperatives to work together and use agricultural machinery more efficiently.
The Field Day once again demonstrated the growing interest of agricultural producers in modern technologies aimed at preserving soil fertility, using moisture efficiently, reducing production costs, and increasing the sustainability of agricultural production.
At the end of the event, the Ala-Buka District State Administration presented certificates of appreciation to the project team. The certificates recognized the ongoing efforts to promote No-Till technology and reflected the strong support and high appreciation of the local authorities.
