No-till on Rainfed Fields in Aksy District: Yields Increased 3-4 Times
On 18-19 July 2026, field monitoring was conducted in Aksy District to assess wheat fields where farmers are implementing the No-till technology. The visit focused on evaluating the season’s results and yields, assessing the economic efficiency of the technology, and providing farmers with practical advisory support.
As part of the monitoring, 8 farms were visited in the Kashka-Dobo and Sogot Ayil Okmotus. Project experts Elvira Suvanova and Sherzod Abdurakhmanov, together with representatives of the Jalal-Abad SKS, assessed the condition of the fields and discussed the results of the season with farmers.
The results demonstrated the strong potential of No-till technology on rainfed land. Previously, under conventional soil cultivation, wheat yields on local rainfed fields were only 5-8 centners per hectare. This season, successful demonstration fields using No-till achieved average yields of 23-25 centners per hectare, approximately 3-4 times higher than previous results.
Farmers noted that No-till helped reduce sowing costs by eliminating ploughing and disking operations. The impact was particularly significant on rainfed land, where conventional farming had often failed to generate sufficient yields to cover production costs.
In Kashka-Dobo Ayil Okmotu, farmers highlighted that they had never previously achieved such high yields on local rainfed fields. The use of quality seeds and mineral fertilizers, combined with adherence to the No-till technology protocol, helped improve farming practices and obtain a higher-quality wheat harvest.
The successful results have also increased farmers’ interest in the technology. Some farmers have started bringing previously unused rainfed land back into agricultural production and are planning to expand No-till areas next season.
