Field Monitoring of Grain Crops and No-till Technology Conducted in Osh Region
On 15 July 2026, specialists of the Value Chain Agro Finance project conducted field monitoring visits to farms in Osh Region applying No-till technology for grain production.
The main objectives of the field visit were to monitor the condition of the fields, assess the results and yields of the current agricultural season, evaluate the effectiveness of No-till technology, and provide farmers with technical and advisory support.
The monitoring was conducted by project experts Elvira Suvanova and Sherzod Abdurakhmanov, together with Grain Coordinator Edil Sharapov.
Positive results from the use of No-till technology
At the time of the monitoring visit, most of the target farmers had already completed wheat harvesting and mowing. In several farms, harvesting activities had been temporarily suspended due to recent rainfall.
Overall, the project is observing positive dynamics among farmers applying No-till technology. During the current season, the average wheat yield on the monitored No-till fields reached 22-24 centners per hectare.
In addition to grain production, farmers receive additional income from hay sales. The amount of hay obtained reaches approximately 100-150 bales per hectare.
Wheat market prices have also increased compared to the previous season. In 2026, the selling price averaged 20-22 KGS per kilogram, reaching up to 25 KGS per kilogram in some cases. By comparison, the price was around 17 KGS per kilogram during the previous season.
The price of hay ranged from 190 to 250 KGS per bale.
At the same time, farmers reported an increase in the cost of key production inputs, including mineral fertilizers, fuel and lubricants, and seeds.
No-till demonstrates advantages on rainfed land
The field monitoring provided an opportunity to compare No-till technology with traditional wheat cultivation practices on rainfed land.
On the project fields where No-till technology is applied, wheat yields reached 22-24 centners per hectare, compared to approximately 6-15 centners per hectare under traditional practices.
This means that wheat yields under No-till were approximately 1.5-3.5 times higher than under traditional cultivation practices.
The volume of hay was also significantly higher. No-till fields produced approximately 100-150 bales of hay per hectare, which is around 3-4 times more than under traditional practices.
These results demonstrate the potential of No-till technology to improve the productivity of grain production on rainfed land and increase farmers’ income.
Monitoring of six farms
As part of the field visit, project specialists visited six fields in the Kara-Suu and Nookat districts of Osh Region.
In Kara-Tash village, Kara-Suu District, the team visited a 40-hectare field of the Maripov cooperative, with Imetov Adyl and Imetov Kanybek listed as responsible persons in the project database. At the time of the visit, harvesting was scheduled to begin the following week. The expected yield was approximately 20 centners per hectare, with an estimated selling price of 21-22 KGS per kilogram.
In Kyrgyz-Ata village, the team visited a 15-hectare field belonging to beneficiary Attokurov Mamasadyk, a partner of Imetov Kanybek. Harvesting had been fully completed, and the wheat had been cleaned and packed into bags. The actual yield of cleaned grain reached 22 centners per hectare, while the wheat was sold at 25 KGS per kilogram.
Another 15-hectare field belonging to Imetov Kanybek was also visited in Kyrgyz-Ata village. Harvesting had been completed, and the grain had been cleaned and packed. The actual yield reached 22 centners per hectare, with a selling price of 25 KGS per kilogram.
In Nookat District, in Kyzyl-Bulak village of Kulatov Aiyl Okmotu, three additional fields were visited.
The 3-hectare field of beneficiary Myrzakulov Chyrmashbay was scheduled for harvesting the following week. The expected yield was approximately 20 centners per hectare, with an estimated selling price of 22 KGS per kilogram. The farmer had applied a small amount of ammophos fertilizer.
On the 4-hectare field of Razayev Abdurasul, harvesting was also scheduled for the following week. The expected yield was approximately 20 centners per hectare, with an estimated selling price of 22 KGS per kilogram. The farmer had also applied a small amount of ammophos.
The 10-hectare field of beneficiary Zholdoshbay uulu Talant had a lower expected yield of approximately 15 centners per hectare, with an estimated selling price of 22 KGS per kilogram.
The monitoring identified the absence of ammophos application as one of the factors contributing to the lower expected yield compared to other project farms.
This result highlights the importance of following all elements of the recommended No-till technology package, including the appropriate application of fertilizers and other agronomic measures.
Practical experience supports further advisory assistance
The field monitoring enabled project specialists to assess the practical results of No-till technology, compare yields across farms, and identify factors affecting grain production.
The findings also demonstrate the importance of following the complete recommended technology package to achieve better results.
Continued field monitoring and advisory support will help farmers improve their No-till practices, increase the efficiency of grain production, and create additional opportunities for increasing farm income within the grain value chain scheme of the Value Chain Agro Finance project.
