Growing together: Integrating farmers into value chains with sustainable finance

Shabdan, a farmer from the Chuy region, has been growing peppers for many years. Last year, he learned about practical training sessions offered through the “Value Chain Agro Finance” project aimed at improving agricultural practices. These trainings became a turning point in his farming approach.

During the training, Shabdan gained valuable knowledge in key areas:

1.Monitoring compliance with recommended agricultural techniques, including soil preparation, applying phosphorus fertilizers, and optimizing planting schemes.

2.Understanding the importance of proper fertilization, crop rotation, and drip irrigation.

3.Receiving practical advice on enhancing agricultural methods — experts helped him adapt farming techniques to better suit local conditions.

By applying these recommendations, Shabdan significantly increased his pepper yield this year. His harvest was noticeably larger compared to previous seasons. He also noted that by implementing these new methods, his farming became more environmentally friendly. The rational use of fertilizers and improved planting techniques have reduced soil erosion and lessened the environmental impact of his farm.

Shabdan shared:

“Following the experts’ recommendations, I not only achieved a higher yield but also contributed to protecting the environment. This training helped me discover new opportunities for the growth of my farm and sustainable development”.

Shabdan’s story is a shining example of how proper agricultural practices can not only boost crop production but also support environmental conservation, offering long-term benefits for both farmers and nature. The training provided through the “Value Chain Agro Finance” project has empowered farmers like Shabdan with the knowledge to enhance yield and product quality, ensuring a more sustainable future.
