Growing together: Integrating farmers into value chains with sustainable finance

On 24 July 2026, within the framework of the Value Chain Agro Finance project, representatives of the European Union and project experts conducted a field visit to Chuy Region. The main objective of the visit was to review the results of technical support provided to farmers, assess the current condition of agricultural fields, and collect feedback from farmers on the support measures implemented by the project.

During the visit, the delegation visited a farm growing sweet pepper in Nizhne-Chuy village, as well as a sugar beet farm located in Kara-Balta. The participants learned about the cultivation practices applied by farmers, observed ongoing field activities, and discussed current challenges and achievements with local agricultural producers.

Special attention was given to assessing the economic impact of the project on farmers’ activities. As part of the analysis of the sweet pepper value chain, project experts calculated average yields and additional income generated by participating farmers. According to monitoring results, the productivity of farms involved in the project is on average 20-30% higher compared to farms that are not participating in the project. These results have been achieved through access to modern cultivation methods, technical advisory support, and improved access to financial resources.

The field visit provided an opportunity for EU representatives to see the practical results of the project implementation, discuss key challenges in the vegetable sector with farmers, and identify further opportunities for the development of the sweet pepper and sugar beet value chains in the region.
